Malta School Sports Tour - Abraham Moss School

In October 2010, 30 pupils and 4 staff from Abraham Moss School in Manchester visited the sunny island of Malta on their school sports tour. After a successful parents' presentation evening where tour manager Daniel Smith explained more about the island and its touring possibilities the team decided to go on their school sports tour to Malta.

Malta is situated in the Mediterranean just South of Italy and with flights available from Manchester, London and the Midlands it's easily accessible for most school sports teams from the UK. Malta is a great destination for youth rugby, hockey, football, swimming and netball tours for school teams of all ages and abilities. Opposition teams and schools for each sport are always willing to play against touring sides and Abraham Moss School enjoyed some quality fixtures and the pupils made some great friends during the post-match hospitality.

Our Malta school sports tours are generally placed in hotels in Bugibba or Silema where there is plenty to do but the nightlife is not as bustling as the party capital of the island, St Julians. Abraham Moss stayed in the Topaz Hotel, a fantastic 4* hotel that handles a lot of our youth and school sports tours to Malta with games room and social areas, clean, secure and comfortable rooms, swimming pool in a great location. That's enough about Malta we'll let the school sports tour coordinator talk you through his opinion of the tour that Tours 4 Sport provided. "30 Pupils and 4 Staff set off on a 5 night sports tour to Malta, for most pupils this was a first time on a plane and certainly the first time away from family for 5 nights.Throughout the tour pupils were engaged in numerous sporting, educational, social, religious enjoyable opportunities whether this was the visit to Valetta (Malta’s historical Capital City), group bowling, meal out at a healthy Maltese restaurant or even just fun games in the swimming pool.

The educational trip provided pupils with many different experiences and was excellent to see them engaging with pupils from a different country, many of whom have stayed in contact via social networking sites. Pupils were also responsible for the cleanliness of their room and were tasked with cleaning duties each day. Rooms were then checked by staff, who believe this will provide the pupils with a life skill. The tour was certainly a once in a lifetime opportunity to experience life as a full time athlete as the pupils were expected to eat and drink like athletes and also train or play a game each day.

This outstanding trip has also increased cohesion between the group of people that were on the tour as they are all now one big group and not little groups as they were when we first identified the pupils. This has also helped to introduce other members of the community to each other through parents' evenings for the Malta Sports Tour. The pupils who attended the tour have also created a notice board for the school corridor and have presented lots of information via a school assembly."
