Colstons is a school with an excellent rugby tradition and we are delighted to be working with them. Their senior squad arrived at our own rugby club yesterday lunch time and had a light training session in glorious sunshine. This was followed by a pre-season round robin with St Ambrose School and Manchester Grammar School on the lush 1st XV pitch. The fixtures were very well matched, with all three sides winning one game apiece.
All sides then enjoyed some post-match food and refreshments at the club, although we can't take credit for the weather which enabled everyone to eat outdoors in the early evening.
As the weather was so nice, it seemed a shame to hurry back to the hotel, so we organised for the group to check-in from the rugby club. By the
time they arrived at the hotel a 10 minute drive away, all the players already had their keys and could go straight to their room to drop their bags off before enjoying the facilities.
The hotel is fantastic, our sports groups always love it. Free wifi throughout, a good pub and restaurant on-site, high quality en-suite rooms with satellite TV, and outstanding leisure facilities. The staff were able to do a quick workout in the well equipped gym whilst the players took a rather novel approach to their recovery session: they joined in with an aquarobics class in the big pool, followed by a trip to sauna and steam room.
Earlier today, a pre-breakfast pool session was the perfect way to get rid of any soreness, and the vast breakfast selection enabled the lads to fuel-up for their training session to follow. One
easy check-out from the hotel and short minibus journey later, we were back at the rugby club for a 2 hour session on the magnificent 4G rugby pitch. After yesterdays exertions the focus here was on handling, organisation and some team building; the improvement over just a few drills was noticeable
Pete Thornley, head of rugby at Colstons left us with some kind words: "Colston's had an excellent pre-season trip to Manchester organised by Tours4. After passing on our requirements to Sam there was little else to do. Hotel, facility bookings, local information etc. were all taken care of. Sam did a remarkable job in looking after us, including taking a boy to hospital after an injury. The hotel was an ideal place to relax and recuperate with numerous things to do. The rugby club where we trained had excellent facilities and even a par 3 golf course which we made use of on our final afternoon. I would certainly consider using these facilities again and perhaps for an extra couple of days next time."
From everyone at Tours4, good luck to Colstons this season.
Manchester is one of our preferred pre-season destinations due to the excellent sports facilities and accommodation we can offer. Contact us on info@tours4.com or 0800 043 3887 for full details.
