Hilversum Rugby Festival 2012

The Hilversum Rugby Festival is one of the longest running and best organised of the European youth rugby tournaments on offer. Situated just 30 minutes drive South East of Amsterdam, the location is superb.

Coach travel from the UK, 3 nights' half board accommodation in Holland, international tournament on Easter Sunday plus friendly fixture or sightseeing on Saturday. One of the best value international rugby tours available!

Over Easter weekend 2012 we are offering the following packages in Holland, suitable for U13 through to U19 teams.
  • 4 days' executive coach hire.
  • Return Dover - Calais - Dover ferry crossings.
  • 3 nights' half board accommodation in Noordwijk, Haarlem or Amsterdam.
  • Optional friendly fixture on Easter Saturday.
  • Entry into Easter Sunday rugby tournament, including food at tournament.
  • Itinerary planning service.
With prices starting from just £265 per person, this offers outstanding value for money. Let's look at a few more details.

The dates are over the Easter weekend, so 6th - 9th April 2012. Your friendly coach driver will pick you up at your home rugby club on Good Friday and stay with you throughout the weekend until you finish back at your club on Easter Monday. You will head down to Dover, over to Calais on the ferry and then drive up to Holland to your chosen accommodation, where breakfast and dinner is included daily from Friday dinner until Monday breakfast.

You can use Saturday to either do some sightseeing or an activity, or we can organise a friendly fixture for you. The club standard in Holland isn't that strong, so this is an opportunity to ensure everyone gets a game in preparation for the tournament tomorrow, plus of course a chance to make some new friends in the sport - the Dutch clubs which we use love to host visiting teams. In the past, clubs have visited central Amsterdam in their free time, which offers a vast selection of things to see and do. A popular choice is to do a private canal cruise: we can get you your own private barge to do a tour of the city from the water. The beaches on the West coast are great as well though.

On Easter Sunday you will take the short journey to Hilversum Rugby Club, host to a large one day tournament for ages through from U13 up to U19. This is a well established tournament which attracts sides from Holland, UK, France, Belgium and other countries. The international presence helps to keep the standard up, so you will enjoy competitive fixtures here, as well as an excellent atmosphere. We have included food at the tournament as part of your package.

Age groups generally split into 2 pools and play in groups, then proceed to knock out for the final places. The event starts at 10AM and is scheduled to start by late afternoon, although finals often go on until around 6PM.

On Easter Monday you will check out of your accommodation, travel back to Calais, hop on the ferry to Dover and head back to your club.

We have chosen our accommodation because of the suitability for large youth groups, the locations, facilities and value for money we can offer your tour party. We have three accommodation centres, in Amsterdam, Haarlem and Noordwijk. All of them are based on multi-bedded en-suite accommodation on bed, breakfast and evening meal basis. The rooms are comfortable and modern. Facilities on site include bar and restaurant, games areas, meeting rooms and outdoor space.

The locations make for a perfect base for your rugby tour. The Amsterdam venue is in the East of the city, close to the Artis Zoo, within walking distance of the city centre attractions, or just 5 minutes' ride on the tram which stops just yards away from the accommodation. The area is quiet, yet you are so close to everything the city offers that it means you can easily make the most of your free time without being kept awake at night, as can be the case with hotels around Dam Square. Below are several videos we have taken of the venue; the two other destinations below are furnished in a similar fashion.

Haarlem is a smaller city, located 25 minutes to the west of Amsterdam. Easy travelling distance into the capital for one of your free days, but also you are within 10 minutes' drive of the excellent sandy beaches on the west coast, such as Bloemendaal aan Zee. Strategically then, this is ideal, but you are also on the doorstep of a lovely city in Haarlem, with plenty of shops, cafes and restaurants to enjoy. The accommodation is a couple of miles north of the city centre, and there is a large bowling alley close by which groups enjoy. The on-site facilities are good, and there is an excellent bar terrace overlooking the canal.

Noordwijk aan Zee is one of the most popular tourist town on the west coast beaches. This is a family friendly town with lots of shops and cafes, with Amsterdam still only around half an hour's drive away. The accommodation here is located beside the dunes and the woodlands, and has been recently renovated to provide a comfortable and contemporary interior. There is a good lounge and bar, and a lot of outdoor space for games.

Packages can also be organised for groups who want to fly into Holland, or travel on the North Sea overnight ferry route from Hull.
